Hello I’m Isaac Staton (He/Him) and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor

I specialize in individual therapy for most age groups, and I have worked with many different types of clients. This includes those suffering from trauma, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and individuals with severe mental illness. Some issues clients have brought to me in the past are PTSD and other trauma related disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, various Eating Disorders, Depression, Anxiety, grief/loss, anger issues, and various Psychotic Disorders.

I am a firm believer in evidence-based therapy, so my therapeutic approach changes from client to client. However, my default approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT. I am a trauma informed counselor. In the past, I have also used person-centered therapy, solution-based therapy, and Psychological First Aid.

During counseling, I work to create a space that is safe and secure for my clients. I emphasize during counseling that I do not judge my clients, no matter what they say during therapy. Finally, I am excited to be with you on this journey.

  • I’m ready to improve myself or relationship
  • I’m ready to thrive in life
  • I’m open to help in life’s journey

Education and Affiliations

In 2018, I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology with minors in English and Criminal Justice. I originally was majoring in Animal Science to become a veterinarian. However, one of the required classes was a general psychology class, and I fell in love with the field of Psychology from that point forward.

In 2021, I received my Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX. While at Angelo State, I worked for a forensic psychologist. I was his driver, but he also sent me to do psychological testing on inmates in the Texas prison system. I also completed a Master’s thesis during my last year of school about COVID-19’s effect on the Elderly.

Before coming to Modern Wellness Counseling, I worked as an assessor for the only Maximum-Security Mental Health Hospital in Texas. I then worked as a counselor for a non-profit focusing on providing services to victims of crimes.

I am a member of the Texas Counseling Association.

I am an independent contractor here at Modern Wellness Counseling.

Me outside the therapy room

I am a very big proponent of maintaining a work/life balance where possible for my clients, as well as myself. When I am not working with clients, I am a HUGE nerd. I play a lot of video games, mostly on the computer. My favorite genre is a tie between RPGs and Grand Strategy. I also actively play Dungeons and Dragons with a friend group on the weekends. I also read on occasion. The rest of my time is spent wrangling the giant snowball I call a dog named Alpine. He is a Great Pyrenees, and still thinks he is a puppy despite being over 100lbs. I get most of my exercise walking him, playing with him, and bathing/brushing him. He is a disaster, spoiled to death, but I love him unconditionally despite my better judgement.
